Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani… Justice Awaited

10 Sep

Ahmed Ghailani, who was captured in 2004 in Pakistan, was assumed to be a Qaeda terrorist, hence, was detained in a secret prison which is in the hand of CIA. He is now the first Guantanamo captive who is shifted to the civilian court.
Mr. Ghailani says that during five years of his confinement, he was restrained into ruthless conditions, was battered during his interrogations and was even deprived of a lawyer. Ghailani’s case got more twisted with Judge Kaplan coming in for hearing complex and lengthy Qaeda cases. The judge is feared to finish his case off by pronouncing any prosecution.
In the year 2007, at Guantánamo, he asked for forgiveness as he states himself unaware of the harm Osama planned for others. Till date, he has attended his entire trial sitting calmly next to his lawyer until last Monday, when they filed a motion asking for clearing them with charges because of the court’s delay in getting the defendant.
This case is drawing a lot of public attention because of the motion, which was supposed to give away all the details about Ghailani’s time spent during detention will now go under editing and only censored version of it will be presented publicly. His hearing is now being termed as a perfect case of transition.
