Friday night was a day of terror in Chile as thousands of people were forced to evacuate their homes and many millions were preparing for what is believed to be a massive tsunami making its way across the Pacific. The earthquake, that originated in Chile, has been measured on the Richter scale at a staggering 8.8, killing a reported 150 people with numbers expected to rise as the days go on.
Residents on the many islands in the Pacific have been evacuating to higher ground as they fear the rise in water levels. Experts are saying that the tsunami could strike almost anywhere, and they are currently unaware of the exact areas that are going to be effected.
Chile’s leader Michelle Bachelet has called for a state of catastrophe, declaring that the death toll will most likely rise. It has already been reported that the tsunami has already caused a large amount of damage to the Juan Fernandez Islands, which are located around 250 kilometers off the coast of Chile. Other islands, like Easter Island, have already evacuated over 5,000 people away from the coast in preparation for the tsunami.
